Overview

The Physician Assistant is responsible for providing services and care to children, adolescents and their families supported in the clinic by providing full psychiatric and medical assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, recommendations and follow up. The Physician Assistant also provides clinical consultation to the interdisciplinary clinical team, participate in clinical presentations, agency’s learning collaborative and weekly consultation meetings. The Physician Assistant adheres to the agency strength based culture and is expected to provide person-centered, trauma informed psychiatric treatment

Responsibilities

· Conducts psychiatric assessments to children and adolescents receiving psychotherapy services within the program

· Provides maintenance Psychotropic medication management and assesses for the presence of medication side effects

· Performs physical examinations and preventative health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions when needed

· Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess for clinical health care needs

· Records findings and formulates plan and prognosis based on condition

· Reviews and discusses cases with head Psychiatrist and clinical team, including but not limited to, other health professionals to prepare person supported comprehensive treatment plan

· Initiates, develops and submits treatment plans for approval by physician

· Prescribes or recommends medication or other forms of treatment related to therapeutic needs

· May refer person supported to a physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment

· Responsible for documenting all visits, medications prescribed and writing of orders

· Attends weekly supervision with Psychiatrist or Agency’s Medical Director

· Attends weekly interdisciplinary team meeting

Qualifications

· Certified Physician Assistant - minimum 2 years’ experience with population served

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, Excel) and experience with Electronic Health Record and E-prescribing

· Able to encourage positive attitude toward consumer’s capabilities and limitations
