Family Child Care Provider will deliver the Parent Child Home Program at Leake & Watts which promotes early literacy in children ages 18 months to 3 years old and families. In addition, the Home Visitor will also deliver the model to Family Child Care Providers. Using a gentle approach, Home Visitors model reading, playing, and conversation activities using books and educational toys to parents and Family Child Care Providers with their children in "play" sessions. "Play" sessions will include reading books to children and modeling to parents/providers how they can interact with their children during reading by engaging in open ended questions.


  • Visits assigned families and engage parents/ providers and their children in interactive "play" sessions for 30-45 minutes twice weekly
  • Brings a new book, toy or activity to family weekly
  • Models for parents/providers the appropriate ways to interact with his/her child using the toy or book
  • Creates an atmosphere in which the parent/provider feels comfortable participating
  • Respects the role of the parent as his/her child's first and most important teacher. As well as respect the role of the provider as the primary teacher.
  • Comfortable to be video recorded while engaging in sessions for National's/OCFS or Leake and Watts internal purposes.
  • Writes an anecdotal report for each visit
  • Attends weekly staff meetings
  • Records attendance at Parent Child Home Sessions
  • Ensures that paperwork is up-to-date, organized and delivered to the Parent Child Home
  • Coordinator in a timely manner
  • Keeps an organized folder for each child
  • Shows responsibility for the toys and books issued to him/her
  • Is supportive of other Home Visitors
  • Respects the privacy of all families/providers and shows good judgment in the discussion of sensitive family issues at staff meetings or with his/her supervisor  Maintains a non-judgmental attitude toward families/providers
  • Manage assigned caseload of 2-3 families and 8 providers
  • Additional duties as assigned by Program Coordinator


  • H.S Diploma or GED required
  • Associates preferred
  • Be able to work flexible after-school and evening hours to accommodate the needs of families as well as some weekend hours
  • Work on other projects during breaks in the program cycle. This may include but is not limited to: clerical work, assisting during events, help organizing the Christmas toy drive
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to create activities independently that can be used in the day cares
  • Experience working with a larger group of children
  • Has knowledge or child development and models for the parent appropriate behavioral expectations of 2-3 year old children
  • Must Enjoy playing and reading with young children
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Providers
  • In activities that involve puzzles or building blocks, Home Visitors will demonstrate the ability to: use their imagination, encourage children to think creatively and critically, and expose the child to symbols such as numbers, letters, colors, shapes
  • Have the ability to relate to parents/caregivers as equal partners
  • Must be able to exhibit warmth and patience to children and families
  • Must be nonjudgmental and flexible in adapting to the home setting
  • Familiarity with the South Bronx communities a plus
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Word a plus
  • Previous experience in group settings such as day care or classroom a plus
  • Ability to grasp, articulate, and promote the agency mission
  • High energy level, strong work ethic, flexibility and sense of humor
  • Experience at a non-profit, including as a volunteer, preferred
